While its plot is n’t grounded on specific literal events, Master and Commander deserves a spot then because of its fidelity to authenticity. Directed by Peter Weir and grounded on Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey- Maturin new series, this 2003 film takes you deep into the Napoleonic Wars. The attention to detail is insane — from the boat designs to the historically accurate nonmilitary uniforms. Watching this film feels like stepping onto a British warship in the early 1800s.
