2. The Origin of the Nine Unknown Men (Legend)

According to legend, Ashoka realized that some knowledge could be dangerous if it fell into the wrong hands. Advanced ideas about warfare, psychology, medicine, or political control could be misused.

To protect humanity, he is said to have:

• Assigned each book to one highly intelligent guardian
