8. Walking Between the Twin Towers on a Tightrope

Walking on a tightrope is already nerve-wracking, but imagine doing it 1,300 feet (396 meters) above the ground—without permission or safety harnesses! In 1974, French high-wire artist Philippe Petit illegally set up a cable between the Twin Towers of New York’s World Trade Center and walked across multiple times over 45 minutes. His daring act later inspired the 2015 movie The Walk.
