Chalicotherium – The Gorilla-Horse Hybrid

Chalicotherium looked like a strange mix of a horse and a gorilla.

  • Long front legs with large claws
  • Walked on its knuckles, similar to gorillas
  • Belonged to the ungulate family (hoofed animals)
  • Closest modern relatives: horses, not gorillas

Despite its scary appearance, Chalicotherium was herbivorous. Its height allowed it to reach tall tree branches easily.

Fossils suggest it survived until around 8,000 years ago. Scientists believe climate change and early human activity may have caused its extinction.
