4. Vorombe Titan – The Elephant Bird

Vorombe titan was the largest bird ever discovered.
It lived only on the island of Madagascar.

Even though it couldn’t fly, it was enormous:

• Similar in weight to a small elephant
• Much larger than ostriches
• Closest living relatives are kiwi birds

Humans hunted these birds and destroyed their habitats.
By around 1000 AD, Vorombe titan was completely extinct.
