7 Giant Animals That Are Extinct | Part 4

1. Sivatherium – The Giant Giraffe Relative

Sivatherium – The Giant Giraffe Relative

Sivatherium was one of the largest members of the giraffe family ever discovered.
It lived in Africa and the Indian subcontinent, including the Shivalik Hills (India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan).

Unlike modern giraffes, Sivatherium had:

  • A shorter neck
  • A bulky body
  • Large horn-like structures on its head

It looked like a mix of a giraffe and an okapi and survived on a herbivorous diet.

Fossil evidence suggests Sivatherium lived 1–2 million years ago, but some archaeological findings hint it may have survived much later—making its extinction timeline mysterious.
