Deinocheirus – The Giant “Duck” Dinosaur

Imagine a duck the size of a double-decker bus. That’s Deinocheirus.

  • It belonged to the theropod dinosaur group (the same group birds evolved from).
  • It had long arms, a humped back, and a wide, duck-like beak.
  • Unlike many theropods, it was omnivorous, eating plants, fish, and small animals.

Although it looked similar to Therizinosaurus, the resemblance was due to convergent evolution, not close relation.

Deinocheirus went extinct around 66 million years ago during the mass extinction event that wiped out most dinosaurs.
